its when the crank bearings have lube probs and wear out causing your crank to move excessivly back and forth hitting the crank angle sensor.youll hear a ticking that goes up and down with rpm's and doesnt go away like lifter tick.its a new 4400 dollar block and sometimes a new engine at that.if you drive your car in fear of it,sell it and call it a day.other than that out of 40 million eclipses only a rare number has cw.its a default of mitsu's that they wont fess up to.one way to avoid this is when using a heavier than stock clutch,disengage the sensor that makes you have to push the clutch to the floor when starting.at start up is when theres no oil in the head so you dont have to push the crank over with no lube in the bearings......understand?there is no "real" fix for this.the second gens are more succeptible to it than 1st gens due to have a 7 bolt head over the 6 bolt of the 1st gen.
