Up until the current car I used the Mpthers P3 three-phase system (cleaner, sealer and carnauba) for clear coat paint - boy that was a lot of work to set up - think waxing and polishing the car completely 5 or 6 times - I hated doing it but was pleased with the finish and its longevity.
Meguiars do a similar range of products and are well regarded too.

I used the Mothers car wash that was recommended for this system which had excellent results.

Currently, the car I have has had a teflon finish applied to the paint finish which does not require detergent (in fact the producer of the finish recommends that you don't use a detergent) so you use clean water to wash the car.

The finish is guaranteed for 3 years and was applied when the car was new.
