Okay. In your center console, there are 4 screws. 2 underneath the e-brake (under the rectangular beauty cap), and 2 up towards the front of the console (one on each side). Neither of these should have a nut on the other side, the two up front just screw into a plastic clip, and the 2 under the e-brake go into threaded bungs ([beavis]huh-hu he said "bung"[/beavis]).
I don't understand why you're having so much trouble with the screws (sounds like you're working on the two up front). You can go to the hardware store and buy what's called an "easy out" or "screw extractor". Then, what you have to do is drill a hole in each screw down through the threaded part (probably about a 1/4" deep. Then, you put the screw extractor in the hole and use a wrench to twist it. It's designed to grab the inner wall of the hole you drilled, and you just unscrew it...
If you aren't planning on keeping your center console, just hack away at it with a dremel tool or something...
