I own 2 '67 coupes and i only paid $500 for one and $450 for the other. The $500 one I am fixing up for myself. I use the other one for parts, nothing more. But you have to keep in mind I live in a small town in Kentucky where it is not uncommon to find such deals. Try driving through the country, glancing over through farm fields and such and you'll be surprised what you might find.
