Re: Not the fastest car in the world anymore...

They ultimate goal of the Veyron was not simply to be the fastest production car in the world. It was to make the Veyron the fastest luxury touring car in the world. All of these 'kit cars' that claim top speeds of higher than the Bugatti may do so, but how long will it last? Veyron guru Ferdinand Piech set out to build the best car the world had ever seen. It was not only to be fast but ultimately luxurious, built with hand selected leathers and metals. It was to be driveable, so you can take it down the street at a snails pace and not set the clutch on fire. And it was to be able to do it again and again. Unlike race cars (or back shed supercars) where a transmission or engine simply has to last for a track day, the Veyron was designed to stay on the road with little maintenance, year after year.

There will be cars that are faster than the Bugatti, but it will be a long time before a car does it as graciously, effortlessly and flatteringly smooth as the Veyron does.
