i flushed the fluid @ 50k miles on my '08 S by disconnecting the cooler return line, right in front of the driver's side wheel well.
used amsoil ATF fluid. that was 8k miles ago.
you won't want to pull the trans pan- it's not a reusable gasket. to my knowledge there is not a replaceable filter within.
