I can't turn the key off in my 92 Cierra......it is stuck in the on position with the car running. Rocked the shift lever, worked the tilt up and down, rocked the steering wheel, all to no avail. Cannot remove key or turn it back to the off position. 2.5l FI....had to remove the injector plug to snub the engine and disconnect the battery so it would not discharge. I can reconnect the injector and battery and the key will go forward to start the engine again.
It did this about a week ago, but after some jiggling around, they key turned off and I thought it was a one-time fluke.
The key never gave any signs of sticking or other trouble ever before, so I am wondering if a new key cylinder might fix this or if there is a problem perhaps with the shift interlock?
