Heres some tips if your gonna be a math teacher:
First, EXPLAIN! the material. Even if its a review. Some people dont retain stuff that well. And explain it well. Give plenty of your OWN notes so that the kids can understand it. MY math teacher thinks that writing a few problems on the boards, solving them (and making mistakes often) is teaching..its not.
Homework. I believe that homework helps, but not to overdo it. If the kids generally understand the homework, dont assign as much as normal, just make it a variaety. If they are having a hard time, give them a little more, so that they can practice. But dont overdo it (i have 60+ problems a night) becuse that just pisses them off, and they wont do it anyway.
Extra help: If a kid needs extra help, give it to them. Dont make them sit into your other classes and go over the same shit you just went over. (guess what MY math teacher does?)
Tests: if you have a test scheduled, and you have a review scheduled for the day before, actaully REVIEW the material, basically quickly re-explaining stuff to them. Going over a few examples inst review.
Today, my math teacher didnt even show up to school (she had a head on collision with a police officer.....hehe) but she is still having the test tomorrow.
Finally: dont be a dick. If you are uber strickt, pick on people in a mean way, yell, or give shit, the kids will give up on you. It may be hard sometimes not to be an asshole to the kids who are being assholes to you, but you just gotta deal with that sometimes.
Any other advice?
