I would never polish base coat. B/c that polish will often cause the clear not to stick. I wetsand my base coats with 1000 and my clears with 2000. Then I use my automotive finishes for my 1:1's. I use 3M scratch remover, swirl mark remover and then finish polish. I use a soft cotton shirt and rub them by hand.
