Usually candy finishes are a 3 stage process. After primer you apply a base colour, usually metallic. It can be silver, gold anything really. Once this has dried you spray a clear over the top, the difference being it is tinted with a colour and this can also be any colour. It creates a depth and a sort of shimmering effect to the paint. The paint can look different colours from different angles. Sometimes the tinted clear dries matt and you need to apply clear over the top for the shine. I used candy paint on my Suzuki Hayabusa build. It looks different colours in different light conditions. That Ferrari you posted a link to looks like the colour used on the F2007 later in the season.
