I have been reading multiple posts in here and over at the Trailblazer forum about the AIR system and the common problems we all seem to be having with them.
I have the dreaded Seconday Air Malf. code, I also was shown a PCM failure as well. I am wondering if I can fix this without going to the dealer. I would like to isolate the problem to determine if it is the pump, valve, relay, or something else entirely.
I have a couple of questions about this:
1. If I hear the whirring sound at cold startup, does that indicate that the pump is working properly?
2. Shortly before this happened, the gas cap would sometimes not seal properly, is it possible that the gas cap could trigger this problem?
3. I have located the pump, I believe since there are two things under there that look like they could be the pump. Where is the check valve? Is it under the hood or upwards in the line from the pump under the car?
4. What could trigger the PCM failure code along with the secondary air?
5. Moderately experienced in repair and hoping that this isn't over my head, let me know from those who have done it before??
Thanks.
