From what the report said, the cop downloads the latest updates from the DMV on plate numbers to watch for, then he goes on his rounds . As he drives down the road the camera picks up and reads all the plates in the vicinity of where he/she is. The rate at which the computer takes the scanned image of the plate and compares it to the databases from the DMV and other local/state/national police dept to determine if itis on any of them and then alert the cop is really something to marvel at. They showed the cop driving down the road and once in awhile you'd hear the thing beep alerting the cop to a vehicle in the database.
Some cops get bored and troll parking lots looking for vehicles to ticket, and our city recently started cracking down on those with large numbers of parking tickets and unpaid fines. In the city, the info on those vehicles that have a high number of parking tickets and fines is also in the system. As the cop is going down the road they are alerted to these vehicles that are in the system, and then call for this van which comes and puts a boot on the vehicle until the owner pays the outstanding fines.Within the first year they raised about 2 million dollars in parking violation fines being paid by this new system, calling it a great success.
Yeah Tom I saw something on TV one evening about those cameras that search plate numbers. I was amazed at how quick it picked them out while moving. We dont have front plates here so thats one advantange.

Though I thought the law stated they couldnt run your plate # just to see who you were, harasament issues. But they still do run them when ever they'd like. I just try not to break any laws and pay tickets asap.

Damn that sucks about your SE XI You seriously need to swing that thing by Purdue when it isn't being run into so I can race and lose

BTW... there's a BMW M6 and a Nissan GTR on campus. Don't go playing with the GTR, the kid (yes like an 18 year old kid... daddy's got some money) is suicidal. Drives like 60 on 30 mph roads and almost hits pedestrians multiple times a day. The automotive club HATES him because he's reckless.
you say that now, you just wait!
Probly in a couple months we'll have 2ft of snow on the roads.
Yeah if it wasnt for bad luck, Id have none at all.

Are you possitive that GTR is real a Nissan GTR and not a clone ? Dont tease me man !
Not very many in the US are legal to drive on the streets, mostly race cars(off road).

I was on the west side of Lafayett at the record store earlier this week. But I was in my Sonoma, though it'll spin the tires.

I may be down that way tuesday or wednesday next week, if not then definatly on the weekend!
My B day is the 18th, so my new GF is taking me out to dinner sometime in the next week.

Btw Vipey how's the water doing at PU ?
I heard it was a little high on lead, that's no good.

enjoy your weekend everyone !
