After you install the belt you need to rotate it completely over and make sure the marks realign. Otherwise you could have gotten a wrong mark and have a problem.
Just rotate it by hand for this check.
The latest manual I have available for a 1997 doesn't show a distributor so I sure this one doesn't have one.
