I used to love racing games, but haven't played one in many years now. Besides the very early ATARI stuff, the first one I played was the original Test Drive back in 1987 and I have played most of them since then. The last one I bought was GT4 for the Playstation2 when it was new, but I quickly found during the license test portion the handheld controllers just don't cut it anymore. The interface has gotten so sophisticated that you really need a steering wheel and pedals to be able to have any real fun with it. To position yourself properly to use those items it helps to have a gaming cockpit and that's even more money. If I had lots of money I'd probably skip over game-console stuff and buy one of those mega-buck racing simulators. They've gotten pretty sophisticated now.

I satisfy my craving a little differently by going go-karting every once in a while.
