These days there is an entire generation of car buyers for whom AMC is a movie-theater chain.
For solid marketing reasons, the move is to eliminate surplus brand names, not add them.
If GM or Ford are going to build new American-made fuel-efficient cars, it will be done under an existing brand name. It takes far too much money to develop a new brand in todays competitive marketplace.
For the same reason, I cannot see an established foreign maker launching an AMC brand here. The existing brands already have well-established brand names that are meaningful in the eyes of consumers.
The only way the AMC name would be used again is if a completely unknown foreign brand is established here (from China, India or Russia, etc) In that case the AMC brand would be better than say, Beijing Automobile, Tata or GAZ.
But they would not be American - made.
