Hello all,
I am building a model in a another forum for a group build contest. The contest is theme based in that each group chooses their theme for the build. On my team our theme is to build a full drift race car. So i thought that I would share with all of you as well of what I am building for this contest.
My kit will be Tamiya’s Toyota SARD Supra GT.
This kit will serve as the foundation for me to build a drift spec racer.
Some modifications will include:
-Modified 2JZ-GTE engine from Tamiya’s Toyota Supra (street spec) kit
-Engine bay detail
-Slight body modifications
-Aftermarket wheels (though I have yet to decide on which)
-And other modifications that have yet to be determined
Hope you all enjoy....
When I build models my favorite part is the engine bay. With that being said I tend to spend a lot of my time and efforts in detailing the engine and the surrounding areas. As some of you may be aware, the SARD Supra is a curbside kit and as I had said before I will be building a modified 2JZ for my drifter. So the following is what I have done so far to get the engine bay ready.

The first thing I started with was fit the 2JZ into the SARD Supra. The 1:1 SARD Supra actually has a twin turbo inline four for the motor which the bottom of is depicted in the model. So modification was made to the chassis to accept the inline six of the 2JZ. I will have to scratch build some new motor mounts and steering components latter.

So with this kit being a curbside, I needed to cut the hood. After debating for a long time of where the cuts should be, I went ahead and made them.

With the hood cut out I wanted the engine bay to look more accurate, so I decided to cut the engine bay borders out of the street version. Once that was cut out I trimmed down the piece until it would fit properly.

Here is the engine bay mocked up with all the pieces as well as the hood from the street version. Some filler will be used to clean up the edges of the engine bay and make everything seem like one. I also mounted the front fenders.

And finally two questions that I have for you all.
One, I still am debating on what kind of rims to use, these are one that I have in mind. The other option is to order some aftermarket wheels, just need to figure out which ones. What do you think?
Secondly, I’m trying to think of what would be better for a wing. The wing that came with the SARD kit, or a GT wing?
Thanks for checking in and comments are always welcomed
