The 1998 Factory Service Manual indicates that this code means "Crash Data Memory Full" and suggests that this code will be set when the airbags have been deployed. It doesn't sound like, according to your post, that the airbags did in fact deploy. If you have access to a professional scan tool that can access the SRS system, it sounds like you should be able to just reset the code. That might cost you more than $15, but it may also save you money in the long run in the event the new ECS module doesn't play well with your current system.
The service manual also indicates that the orientation of the ECS is critical and to inspect the center tunnel for damage. Any damage needs to be repaired prior to replacing the ECS.
Of course, there are all sorts of warnings and procedures that need to be followed when dealing with the airbag system. I'm not going to reprint them here or suggest you do any of this work yourself.
