Sounds like all the problems are unrelated. I'm usually pretty creative, but I can't think of a way to link them all together.
If the fluid was dirty/burnt, have the fluid flushed and see if that fixes the problem. I've seen this problem on two different vehicles and a flush "fixed" them both. Just incase you didn't know, the car has to be running to check the fluid, otherwise the fluid is higher and will run out. If you had enough pressure that it did actually spray out, check the vent/fill cap to be sure the vent isn't blocked.
