Do a volt meter check on your alternator. If it's putting out less then 14v while under load, get a new alt. Weird symptoms have been linked to a dying alternator.

I would NOT leave town in that truck with your waterpump leaking; they are known for freezing up. When you do the water pump, be sure to do the timing belt, and timing belt tensioner at the same time.
