I've never ran across this problem when in 2wd, But you should check your ball joints and tie rods. Also make sure the ujoints are good, if they are real bad they could cause some binding even when in 2wd. Another thing to look at is the vacuum motor on the front axle, and make sure is it disengaging from 4wd. Even if the transfer case is in 2wd the the CAD might have a problem not letting it out of 4wd.
