Yes the strut mounts and bearings tend to go bad on the following models : GTI, Jetta, Cabrio, and Beetle.
You need to replace the strut mounts and the bearings. The part numbers are:
Strut Mounts.... 1J0-412-331-C
Bearings.... 1J0-412-249
