You can use mineral spirits to soften the adhesive. Do not use lacquer thinner, alcohol, or other solvents. Mineral spirits will not harm the factory clearcoat if you wash the surface thoroughly after the glue and tape residue are removed. Once washed, do not wax the surface for several days to be sure all residual traces of solvent have evaporated.

The mineral spirits should slowly dissolve the adhesive. The tape itself will likely be destroyed, but if you intend to use the rain guards again you can apply new double-faced tape.
