If the rest of the exhaust system looks good you should be able to replace the muffler easily. Depending on how rusty things are, you may need a torch or a hack saw to assist.

I live in Michigan and our cars get extremely rusty from the salt in the winter so I just let Lentz take car of that aspect of my cars maintenance.
