there was an NSX-R, but its not exactly the same thing.. the NSX-R (and even the Type S0, for that matter) had bone stock engines, and bone stock suspension too for that matter IIRC.. and the type Rs classically have a hand-massaged engine.

You're just pointing out an evolution in Honda's nomenclature. "NSX-R" and "NSX Type R" are accepted as interchangeable, even by Honda.
