If you unplug the PCV valve do you get a lot of smoke? It could be "blow back" which is poor rings and smoke could be getting run through the PCV and re ran into motor which would cut back on smoke you would see. Evidence would be dark plugs as mentioned and a large amount of smoke coming out of valve cover with the PCV hose onhooked. Usually a car like that has a bad crank seal or seals, bad gaskets ot just worn out. How many miles on it??
