Shocks are usually stated to be replaced somewhere under 50,000 miles. The bushings are replaced when they are torn, worn out, squeak or really loose. The control arms do not need to be replaced unless they are bent or broken. Shocks are a preference to the driver. Some like a "floating" ride while others want a "sporty" ride. So that will be your call. Some shops may install your parts, but they will not warranty them. You should be able to replace the shocks yourself fairly easily. The hard part is getting the top nut off the shock.
