The Haynes manual has a few omissions, which may cause you some frustration. If you are going to replace the struts, you should first test them to see if they are really worn out. Is the car bouncing when you hit bumps? Have you tried pushing up and down on each corner of the car to see if the rocking is dampened by the shock absorber of the strut? If a car were driven on smooth roads, then they may not be worn out.
The ball joints, which are pressed into the knuckles may be worn or have torn boots. The CV boots should be checked for hairline cracks.
Do a search of the forum, within the last week for the ball joints, etc.
