Re: 1973 Comet

My Dad bought a grabber new off the dealer floor. It was green with a green and white checkerboard vinyl top. He immediately pulled the motor, did some machining and dropped it in a 55 t-bird he was racing at the drag strip. After a summer of runs, and massive wear and tear, he put it back and sold it. I always liked that series of Maverick/Comet, but after that summer of looking at that terrible green thing in our backyard, and getting teased about it from the other neighborhood kids, my fondness faded. The main reason you don't see any is because they rusted out in 4 to 5 years. The car companys at the time were trying to lightened the cars using thinner untreated steel. Longevity and reliability was thought to hurt their bottom line, so don't make them to last and people will be back soon to buy another new one.
