Good advice. My insurance company puts "educational literature" in our renewals and one of them listed some things to consider when selecting a car for a teen. Of those items mentioned above, you can also inquire as to the vehicle you are interested in and how it rates on the safety list, and whether or not it is a likely candidate to be stolen. These can affect your rate. Most cars made in the last 10 to 15 years have more safety equipment such as ABS, airbags, traction control, etc. which make them a better choice than their predecessors. They also say to stay away from those vehicles that are considered sports cars or are "high performance". If you get good grades also remember to ask for the "Good Student Discount" that many insurance companies offer, and I'd like to throw in a little tidbit of my own and take a defensive driving course such as those offered by AAA or the National Safety Council. Upon successful completion, you may be eligible for certain discounts on your insurance premiums.
