Re: 99 F250 Electrical Problem - Transfer Case

I'm not familiar w/ 4wd but there has to be a switch that is activated that denotes the neutral shift position is present and somewhere along that circuit, the insulation and very likely insulation on 1 or more other circuit's have become compromised and when the switch closes and the circuit energizes, it simultaneously causes whatever circuit's whose wires are in contact to become energized circuits. If in fact that is the case, You should look for evidence of physical damage that has occurred and probably where multiple wires are being ran bundled. Maybe check locations where work has been done recently. If you pick up a manual it can help you trace the circuit path and I.D. the paths of the other circuits being affected and where their paths might converge. I'm a commercial Machinery Tech and only recently became interested in OBD after my Cat blew up while I was doing 70+mph in heavy traffic 3 weeks after I paid almost 3 C-notes to a state smog diagnostic & repair station that was unable to determine why my truck would not pass smog. However my truck is OBD1 and pre tranny involved. Running scans for stored error codes may not provide any help in your situation but you won't know for sure unless you do. Hope this is of some help, I was thinking any input would be preferable to being left twistin in the wind regarding the problem. Another Mike
