Did they happen to quit working when there was a lot of snow? More than likely you've either broken the wiper transmission (linkages), stripped out the posts that the wipers bolt to, or the nuts that hold the wiper arms onto the posts came loose. Try to tighten them first, if that doesn't fix it, then you will have to remove the wiper cowl to have a look and see what's going on.
