i had a similar problem but on the passenger side;try checkin the windshield for a loose spot by applying some pressure from inside out ,for a bad seal. I used a flowable silicone for glass for hard to reach spots, it worked for awhile but i ended up pushing out a 1 1/2 inch gap and stripped and cleaned metal and glass surfaces and applied a commercial grade window glaze sealant ,works like a champ!

p.s. remove upper panel trim carefully i think it slides up,it gives a better view.
