My 1995 Explorer 4L V-6 started driving in the morning, got about 1/2 mile and saw the temp guage moving slowly fron normal temp up towards redline.
I pulled over and popped the hood. The engine did not appear to be hot and I dumbly did not think to feel the upper radiator hose but just assumed the thermostat had stuck closed. I had a similar problem 2 years ago and changed out the thermostat with no further problems until now.
I left the car for a few hours and then drove it back home. On the drive home I noticed the temp guage started at normal temp and then suddenly dropped to cold. I drove it again today in the AM and it worked normally.
Do I have a bad temperature sender or a bad dashboard guage??
Thanks for any help. Mark
