For tranny options, I can keep the 3550 in the car now(cheapest and easiest route) They make a bell housing adapter that would make the swap very easy.

Or

upgrade to the T56 LS1 tranny, benefits are a 6spd tranny, beefier than the 3550, but more costly and then i have to worry about driveshaft length and other components not matching up.

Or I guess plan C..

Beef up the 3550, but is it worth it?
The extra gear would be useless. Keep the 3550 and run it as is. Your not drag racing. You won't be power shifting or side stepping the clutch. I have a T5 behind a 460 HP 408 with 10k miles on it. Many of those at WOT. Run it until it breaks. The T56 is heavier too.

Do you have a link to the bell housing for that swap? An LS motor has been one of my considerations too. It's tough to beat for 400 HP and an all aluminum engine.
