Optima yellow or red top battery a cheaper route? Maybe not because they cost $150 and up. Plus they are known to have a high failure rate in the winter time. I installed an Optima red top for possible future sound system mods and allegedly superior performance over the stock battery in my son's Alero. It only lasted about 3 months and failed on the first freeze up in New York. Luckily we purchased it through Autozone, was in the computer database, and had it replaced for free due to the premature failure. If you decide to use an Optima IMO it is best to relocate it to the trunk versus being exposed in the engine compartment or be sure to protect it with a battery blanket.

Once of the best mods for a high wattage sound system is beefing up the stock alternator output wire.
