Sounds like something in the lock cylinder to me, it would almost have to be installed properly to start the car though.
What about that little tab that you push in to remove the lock cylinder? Its not stuck in is it?
This is really strange and is probably something simple, I guess if worse comes to worse you can just get a new ignition switch.....or get a spare key and leave one in the ignition
