LOVE the vehicle! A little hard on gas maybe, and not too strong pulling a loaded trailer, but a nice smooth, quiet ride with lots of room in the back seat. (And tons of headroom too.)
Has been very reliable EXCEPT the vacuum switch valves on the front axle got sticky and would not make the front axles engage into four wheel drive. This pis*ed me off royally, as I had to go a whole Canadian winter without 4 wheel drive until I figured out the problem and how to fix it. However, it's fixed now (just took the VSVs off and shot electrical contact cleaner inside) and for front axle locks up like a dream!
Also, I got a "free" oil change coupon at this little shop a couple of years ago, and the 'technician' somehow lost (or more like pried out) the gasket from the oil filler cap. This created a vacuum/pressure(?) problem in the engine which caused the head gasket to blow, which was about $350 to fix. Dirty bast*rd. But I did not get it fixed at the shop that 'lost' the gasket. Bloody thieves.
Now I love my Trooper again! It's been great.
