Old thread, but maybe I can help, although this is kind of dangerous to do.
Put the car on stands or something that it won't move from.
Lift the front end off the ground, making sure the tires aren't making contact with anything, start the car, put it in gear, and "drive" then put it in neutral... it should still do what you're saying.. and you might have an easier time diagnosing it this way than riding around w/ the hood open and having someone else drive while you're under the hood...
Just a thought.
