Re: Die Töpless Triö Rides Again! Porsche 356 Group Büild

Güten tag, meine freunde!

Lately, I've been amusing myself during some nice weather by suffering through some bodywork. Sure, the detail in Enthü kits is nice, but the body parts fit on this one needs some real work. The big problem on the 356B/C body is the bönnet.

Not easy to see on the white body, but the bönnet sits too deep in the body, so there are significant steps on either side.

I thickened the edges with epoxy pütty, so that the bönnet edges were flush with the body.

Then it's just a matter of sanding it down and making it all even....

The bönnet is fitted in place, so both the bonnet and body can be sanded together until the fit is perfect.

Sand, fit, sand, fit, prime, sand, fit, prime, sand, prime, sand, fit....

And on and on until....

Finally! Greatly improved. This is maybe two weeks of rather tedious effort. I'm really not a fan of pütty work, but it's satisfying when it comes out. The primer has been sanded until it (almost) shines.

The chrömed parts in my kit was really rather poor.

The parts of coürse have plenty of flash and sink marks- but even the chröme itself is barely present.

See all the dark spots? No, it's not dark reflection. That's where chröme didn't quite get applied. (Notice the almost bare headlight reflectors?) No choice but to strip it all off, and redo it in Alclad.

But to avoid any Enthü fit surprises, I decided it was best to at least fit the chrome parts so I didn't discover something nasty after the body was painted.

Happily, they all fit. Now I'm getting excited about this one!

Porsche Bali Blau

OK, really it's Tamiya TS15, but it's rather close.

Ready for some clearcoat and chröme!

And maybe some photoetch....
