The 2007 EPA numbers (40/45) are more believable, as not everyone drives with a lead foot.
We don't get the diesel, so we're not seeing the full MPG potential of this chassis. As far as crash safety goes, I would rather be in a Smart than my 2-dr Metro. But I don't have $11k to spend either.
