Best thing to do if you suspect a fuel supply related problem is test the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve located on the front fuel injector rail. 48-55 psi.

Based on what you are saying it sounds like a bad MAF sensor since driveability returns when disconnected.

Also, do you still have the original CAT converter?
