Re: Engine is cutting off while driving

Welcome to the forum!

The CMP Sensor and synchronizer have been discussed in painful detail numerous times on this forum. Please try the "Search this forum" feature from the Taurus forum main page to get details on symptoms and ease to replace.

The synchronizer is known to emit a squeaking sound, and a faulty CMP sensor could cause hesitation/stumbling if faulty. Additionally, if there is a code for the CMP, it's a pretty good indication that is at least a problem. There could be other issues as well, but likely replacing the CMP would not be (conceptually) a waste of money. Their quote seems a bit high having read what it takes to replace the part. Check the other threads that the search feature yields though and draw your own conclusion on amount of labor required to replace. You may be able to find a shadetree person that would be willing to do the job for cost of parts and a case of beer. Just make sure they don't get into the beer until after the job is done....
