Re: 2k blazer tailgate wont open
Can someone please tell Gm this is a real pain in the ass to fix!!! Reading some of these threads it seems like they have been making it with a plastic hook for 20+ years....and they wonder why people are buying foriegn! I'd rather get under my car then wedge my adult self in that small back area...no choice though, lets sweat some bullets folks!
Later in the day...
Ok fixed it, I was lucky, though in my impatience I broke the plastic handle that lets the gate fold down...no biggie considering the problem was when the solenoid was activated the actuator was moving back and forth and the blue plastic piece wasnt broken, it was the metal part the actuator moves, it was BENT.
It wasnt contacting the part it hits that moves the rod that unlocks it. I carefullly bent the metal part back since its connected to the blue plastic part...didnt want to break that too.
One problem someone noted:
I have a 98 blazer, after you remove the two screws that hold the gate handle, you can try to pull back the plastic from the middle where the latch mechanism is, pear in and try to find the rod the actuator hits, jiggle it, toy with it, pull it back and forth, etc and it should release the glass.
Then fold down the gate and you can reach the two screws (1 on each side) that you need to remove to pop the plastic off. After that you may or may not have to remove the metal shield(if blue plastic piece on actuator is broken you def. will)...I had to, but only cuz I was reattaching the spring that is part of the glass latch assembly, it had become disconnected somehow and while trying to figure out how it went back on, I dropped it down the gate and had to fetch it...
Good Luck all...
