Perhaps you already know but a good trick for drilling/locating holes on small pieces is to mark the centre of where you want the hole to be very precisely with a pin or needle first. The indentation will make it easier for your smallest drill bit to be used for a pilot hole... then just go up your drill bits one at a time until the hole is the correct diameter. This process does take a little time but is a great way to make your holes more accurately placed, whatever the diameter.
