Re: 93 7.3idi need a turbo kit

Slap a turbo on there like a banks sidewinder kit or ATS and don't worry about it. A new sidewinder kit from banks sells for under 3 grand but sometimes you can find great deals on ebay and at salvage yards. Lots of old trucks with turbos out there in the salvage yards. Just using the factory turbo doesn't give you that much more power if you put the one on from 93 to 94 1/2 ish idis.(unless your wanting to compensate for high altitude then they will help) Either way, Just keep your boost below 12 psi or you can blow your head gaskets because the factory head studs will not hold well. The banks kit is already setup for 12 psi max so you don't have to worry about it. If you want, you can upgrade your headstuds to ARP head studs but the kit is like $500 for them but you can increase the amout of boost also.
You will also want a pyro meter to measue your egts and make sure you don't over heat.

Usually the turbo will lower your egts with the fuel set correctly which can actually increase the life of your engine. My 93 7.3 IDI has 190,000 miles on it and Im not worried about it.
The banks turbo on mine help my fuel milage tromendesly while towing heavy loads and with no black smoke either. (although I didn't turn my fuel up that much)

Just remember, don't go over 12 psi. Some guys do but they are lucky.
Your showing to get fairly descent fuel milege. What gears are you running. I have 7.3 dually with 4.10 with a e40d and my truck weighs about 8,000 lbs and I get 16-17 mpg on the hwy at 65 mph. Im wanting to try 3:55 and see if that helps the mpg.
