Ok, this just got a little weirder.
I did try lubricating the latches, but that didn't seem to do anything at all.
I have no idea where the delay timer is.
I did talk to a guy about the remote start because it doesn't work and also because I only have one remote to it so I wanted info about that and I asked him about the dome light problem to see if he had any ideas or had heard about anything like that before and he was pretty much at a loss. He said he could fix the remote start and order me a second remote or he could install a new remote start. No idea who installed this one or whether they did a good job or not so getting a new one is tempting, but not sure I can justify the cost. However, I think if I did get a new one, he might be willing to check it out more thoroughly to see if he can find a short somewhere. So that might be a possibility.
Now for the weird part. Another problem it had was that one of the tabs on the rear window defroster had broken off. I had noticed this about the same time as the dome light problem. When I had gotten it back from the mechanic, they had taped it back into place. The dome light worked ok then. The tape loosened so it wasn't making a consistent connection. Then the dome light stopped working. Then it started working briefly again and then it stopped working again.
Yesterday I used the conductive adhesive to glue the tab back on and today I went out to check on it. Tab seems to be holding so that's good news. I get in my truck and start it up and the dome light problem is still there. Try to open the driver side window and it won't go down. (Power windows.) All of the other windows work. I stopped and restarted the truck and all of a sudden, the dome light and door lock are working the way they should.
I don't see how these things can be connected, but it makes me wonder with the way they are happening. Oh, there is sometimes a clicking noise coming from the switch for the driver side window when I press on it as well.
To me it sounds like a short somewhere, most likely in the driver side door. I did notice that when I pulled off the panel for the window and door lock switches that the wires were taped up.
What do you all think? I'm hoping that tomorrow I can go out there and take the door apart and see if I can figure out what the deal is with the taped wires. Besides those specific wires, any others that would be in there that I should be taking a look at?
I'm open to any advice, just know that I am not a mechanic and I don't know a whole lot so you might have to walk me through it a bit, but I do pick things up quickly.
