others have had this indication and found out that the encoder motor was bad.... what are the dtc ? if the dtc says encoder motor then it is the encoder motor....the front axle actuator engages the front axles together thats it..........the encoder motor puts the vehicle into four wheel drive......what is the color of your transfer case fluid?????? if it is gray or black then change this first it is possible that the encoder motor is sticking.....when did you last replace this transfer case fluid [trac II ] ?
