It usually involves a welder to repair them. To remove the armrest, push in at the pivot point, (requires a lot of force) and rotate the armrest backward, and pull it straight off the seat. Remove the upholstery, (usually un zips) and you'll see what broke.

Thanks for the reply master. To answer your question, they are factory seats, not of the conversion van variety. I tried pushing the armrest in with no success, guess I need to hit the gym. I'll try again tonight and see if I have any luck.
