bobistheoilguy.com did a test on this. The factory paper filters flow slightly less, but filter much better. Hi-flow filters don't filter near as much, but do flow slightly more. That extra flow is unnecessary unless you're revving it way past redline. Someone figured on a 3.8L engine, you would have to rev the engine to 12,000(?) RPM before the extra flow would be needed.
