I received a service bulletin in the mail from GM that ultimately fixed the problem. GM fixed it under 'warranty' even though the car had 110K miles. They replaced the gas tank, a solenoid and the gas cap and the problem went away. For those that own a Venture around this year model and are having this problem you may contact GM and resolve the problem without spending big $$. Thanks headnsouth for your reply! A bit over my head. :o)
